LWLAX is comprised of several separate but related offerings that are intended to provide student athletes with year-round lacrosse playing opportunities, training, and team building activities.
LWLAX aims to run in parallel with Lake Washington School District (LWSD), which divides the year into Fall/Winter/Spring Sports and Summer Athletics. Lacrosse is considered a Spring Sport and typically runs from mid-February to late-May.
It is never too early to enjoy this fantastic sport! We welcome kids as early as Kindergarten all the way through senior year of High School! We run teams in the following grade clusters: K-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, and 9-12.
As athletes develop & mature both physically & intellectually, the levels of lacrosse serve to challenge each player to continuously advance. This sport never gets boring!
At LWLAX we welcome both boys and girls to participate in our program. We observe the boys' game of lacrosse which has a specific set of rules and equipment. Want to explore more? Visit USA Lacrosse for details.
Lacrosse is a physical and mental sport. There is very specific protective gear that is required by all players with some positions needing unique items. All players are required to have:
1. USA Lacrosse approved helmet (special pricing on club standards offered twice a year)
2. NCOSAE approved shoulder pads
3. Lacrosse specific elbow pads
4. Lacrosse specific gloves
5. Appropriate lacrosse stick (based on positional play)
6. Molded plastic cleats (no metal cleats)
7. An athletic cup
8. A protective mouthguard
We recognize lacrosse has very unique gear requirements and for those just trying the sport for the first time may not want to make an immediate investment. LWLAX does offer limited loaner gear and we can discuss what is available to help your needs.
At LWLAX we offer registration fees that bucket all the major costs into one flat price for each level. As with any youth team sport, costs are generally bucketed into four (4) main categories:
1. COACHING COMPENSATION. We're blessed to have many who donate significant amounts of time coaching with LWLAX. We offer compensation packages at each grade level that give back a portion of the time they invest in our players.
2. FIELD RENTALS. Lacrosse does require specific field sizes to practice & play on. LWLAX partners with the City of Kirkland and Lake Washington High School to secure fields at a resident rate. These costs are a necessary expense and represent a major expense in our operations.
3. EQUIPMENT. Fresh equipment is always the best but we make sure every item we purchase is used to its fullest. This includes uniforms, goals, nets, balls, loaner gear, and so much more!
4. LEAGUE MEMBERSHIPS & REFEREE FEES. It's great to have a team of lacrosse players but you also need a league to play in. And that league needs referees to officiate the games. We show our appreciation by compensating them for each game they officiate. Even some in our high school program officiate at the youth level! Interested in learning more? Go check them out at WALOA.
Our costs are covered with a variety of sources:
1. Registration Fees.
2. Fundraising Efforts.
3. Generosity of our Community.
